About us
Every town deserves one place for everything local.
If you want to know what's going on where you live, you usually need half a dozen tabs open: the council website, the police news page, a club's fixture list, a business directory, a classifieds site. We built BootMarket because that should be easier.
BootMarket is a local portal for the whole of the UK. Think of it as the car boot sale that never closes – a marketplace for buying, selling and giving things away near you – with everything else about your town alongside it.
Every town, city and village has its own page, and what you see there is genuinely local: the page for Leeds is about Leeds and the places around it, not the whole country.
What you'll find here
- Marketplace – local ads for things to buy, sell, swap or give away.
- Local businesses – shops, tradespeople and services, sorted by town and trade.
- News – what's happening locally, written from named public sources.
- Jobs – vacancies in your town and the area around it.
- Events – what's on, from markets and gigs to community meetings.
- Clubs & sport – clubs and societies, with football fixtures, results and tables.
- Days out – attractions and places to visit nearby.
Where our content comes from
News is written by our editorial team from public announcements: councils, NHS England regional teams, GOV.UK agencies (the Environment Agency, National Highways, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency) and police press offices, plus what clubs and event organisers send in. Every article names its source under the text. Business details come from OpenStreetMap and from the businesses themselves. You can read more under Editorial team & sources and Data sources.
Get involved
Clubs, councils, event organisers and businesses can submit events, news and business listings free of charge. Submissions go live straight away; we review them afterwards and remove anything that breaks our rules. Sign up now.
Independence
BootMarket is funded by clearly labelled advertising from local businesses. Advertising has no influence on editorial content, and adverts are always marked as such.
Who runs BootMarket is set out in our Legal notice.
