Privacy policy

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is Abdul Musah, Hutacker 17, 91347 Aufseß, Germany. Email: support@bootmarket.co.uk

2. Hosting and server log files

This website runs on servers provided by Hostinger International Ltd., 61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus (server location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany). When you visit, technically necessary data (IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser, referrer) is processed in server log files so that we can keep the website running and secure.

Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in operating a secure website. Log files are deleted after 14 days at the latest.

3. Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies: a session cookie set after you log in (“mh_session”), which keeps you logged in, and, only if you choose to share your location or pick a town, a small cookie (“mh_geo”) that remembers that town on your device so the site can show you local content. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

We currently show no third-party advertising. No tracking or advertising cookies are set without your consent, and before we add an advertising network (for example Google AdSense) we will ask for your consent first.

4. Registration and your account

When you sign up we process your name, your email address and a password, which is stored in encrypted form. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.

Content you submit (events, business listings, news items) is linked to your account and published straight away; we review it afterwards and remove anything that breaks our rules. You can have your account deleted at any time by emailing support@bootmarket.co.uk.

5. Contact and enquiry forms

We store the details you give in contact, correction and advertising enquiries so that we can deal with your enquiry, and they are sent by email to our editorial inbox. Lawful basis: contract (including steps taken at your request before a contract) and our legitimate interests in answering enquiries.

The data is deleted once your enquiry has been dealt with, and after 12 months at the latest, unless we have a legal obligation to keep it for longer.

6. Location

The “near you” feature asks for your location through your browser only when you expressly click to use it. The coordinates are used solely to work out which town you are in. They are not stored on our servers; the approximate position is kept only in the “mh_geo” cookie on your own device, and you can clear it at any time by deleting your cookies.

On your first visit, before you have chosen a town, we work out an approximate, town-level location from your IP address so that we can show you content from your area. The lookup uses a database held on our own server: nothing is sent to third parties, and we do not store the result.

7. External content

We do not embed external fonts. Two kinds of content are loaded from other providers:

  • Maps: when a map is opened, its tiles are loaded from tile.openstreetmap.org, which transmits your IP address to the OpenStreetMap Foundation. On search results and days-out pages the map opens with the page; elsewhere it opens only when you click “Show map”.
  • Club badges: the badges shown with football fixtures, results and tables are loaded from TheSportsDB, which receives your IP address when your browser fetches them.

Links to route planners (Google Maps) open on the provider's own site, and only after you click them.

8. Your rights

You have the right of access to your data, the right to have it rectified or erased, the right to restrict its processing, the right to data portability and the right to object to processing. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, contact support@bootmarket.co.uk.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority: in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk; or the data protection authority responsible for the operator's place of business in Germany.

9. Personal data in editorial content

Business listings contain business contact details taken from public sources (OpenStreetMap) or supplied by the owners themselves. Anyone affected can ask for their details to be corrected or deleted at any time: use the report link on the page concerned.

10. Which law applies

BootMarket is aimed at people in the United Kingdom. For users in the UK, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply.

The operator is established in Germany, so the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) applies as well. The lawful bases named above are those of Article 6(1) of both: contract (b), legal obligation (c), legitimate interests (f) and, where we ask for it, consent (a).

The servers are located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
