How our editorial team works

Our principle

We do not copy other people's text. Every news item on BootMarket is written independently, from checked facts taken from public original sources, which we link to at the end of the article. We keep opinion and reporting apart, and we do not publish anything without a reliable source.

Our sources

  • Authorities and public bodies: official press releases from councils, NHS England regional teams, GOV.UK agencies (the Environment Agency, National Highways, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency) and police press offices.
  • Clubs, places of worship, schools and event organisers: events and news sent to us directly. They go live straight away; we review them afterwards and remove anything that breaks our rules.
  • Businesses: OpenStreetMap (ODbL) and details supplied by the businesses themselves. An owner can edit a claimed listing straight away; the “Confirmed by the owner” badge appears once we have confirmed the claim.

Technology in the newsroom

We use software to gather announcements from official sources, pull out and structure the facts, and draft articles. Every draft is checked automatically against its source before it is published: statements that the source does not support are removed, and drafts that are too thin or too close to the original wording are rejected. Articles written from official press releases can go online without waiting for a manual sign-off. What readers, clubs and businesses send in goes live straight away; we review it afterwards and remove anything that breaks our rules. Where AI tools have helped to produce an article we say so under the text, we name and link the source there, and we take editorial responsibility for it exactly as we do for any other text.

Corrections

Mistakes happen. If you spot one, use the report link under the article or write to the editorial team. We check every report and correct visibly. Our corrections policy explains how.

Advertising

Advertising is always labelled as such and has no influence on editorial decisions. Paid business listings are marked as paid.
