A Specialist Doctor in Geriatric Medicine is required to join the Elderly Department of The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The role is based at either Pinderfields or Dewsbury Hospital, where the successful candidate will work predominantly, contributing to a team of 16 substantive consultants. The position involves full-time hours (10 PA) with the possibility of less than full-time arrangements, forming part of a cross-site workforce that supports frail older adults across the Trust’s acute sites. Clinical duties include ward rounds, participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, specialist opinion provision, outpatient or virtual clinics, home visits, teaching, audit, data collection, and quality improvement initiatives. The role also requires maintaining oversight of ward patients, facilitating discharges, supervising junior doctors, and liaising with Same Day Emergency Care Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Essential requirements include a medical degree, full GMC registration with a licence to practise, at least six years of relevant specialty experience following postgraduate training, and demonstrated competence in managing complex cases with autonomy. Leadership abilities, critical reflection on practice, and adherence to professional standards under GMC guidelines are mandatory. The post offers a fixed-term contract of 12 months within Band 9 of the NHS pay band, with a salary ranging from £104,401 to £115,341 per annum.
