Locum Consultant Thoracic Surgeon

The role is a locum Consultant Thoracic Surgeon based at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in Basildon, Essex. It involves delivering high-quality thoracic surgical services within a dynamic team, undertaking on-call duties for emergencies, coordinating post-operative care when colleagues are absent, and introducing new techniques only after ethical approval and compliance with Trust policies. The post requires full GMC registration, a CCT or eligibility for entry onto the GMC Specialist Register within six months of interview, and substantial experience in thoracic surgery together with a solid understanding of NHS structures, research and audit principles. Essential communication skills include clear written expression and effective interaction with multidisciplinary teams. Desirable experience includes recent peer-reviewed research and the ability to supervise postgraduate research.
