About this role
The Substance Misuse Nurse role at HMP Leicester involves delivering specialist substance misuse care within a busy, city-centre male prison of about 320 inmates. The position is based on the prison wing, where clinical work takes place in dedicated rooms, and the nurse will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan and review individual recovery programmes for patients with drug and alcohol issues.
Applicants must be NMC-registered (Adult or Mental Health) and demonstrate experience with opiate-dependent patients, as well as sound clinical knowledge of substance misuse. A legal right to work in the UK is required, and successful candidates will undergo additional vetting and security checks. The post is permanent, full-time, with a 37.5-hour week spread across Monday to Sunday, operating on a rotating 8 am–4 pm schedule that includes one weekend in three; rotas are set a month in advance. The salary ranges from £34,428 to £41,659 per annum, and the role benefits from onsite parking, bespoke induction, a competency framework, a Learning Management System and regional career development opportunities. Applications close on 14 October 2026 and must be submitted through the original advert.
