About this role
The position is a Band 3 Therapy Support Worker role within the acute stroke team at Hereford County Hospital, part of Wye Valley NHS Trust. The post involves working alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists to deliver patient-centred care during the acute and rehabilitation phases of stroke treatment, with the aim of maximising independence and supporting individuals to return to life beyond the hospital. The role is part of a multi-disciplinary team and requires the ability to plan and deliver therapeutic tasks independently, using enhanced skills in a specialised area, while adhering to role boundaries and supervision requirements.
Applicants must hold a level 3 qualification such as three A-levels, a health and science T-level, or an equivalent apprenticeship, together with functional skills or GCSEs in maths and English at grade 9-4 or A*-C. Essential experience includes work at Band 3 or equivalent within a relevant therapy setting, NHS or comparable experience in inpatient or community services, and practical experience with adaptive equipment. Essential skills are knowledge of relevant patient conditions and therapy interventions, demonstration of core physiotherapy or occupational therapy abilities, ongoing continuing professional development, competence in multi-disciplinary assessments and record-keeping, basic computer skills, the capacity to make clinical judgements without direct supervision, and the ability to manage a busy caseload. Personal attributes should include confidentiality, self-awareness, teamwork, adaptability, compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and reliability, together with the physical ability to meet moving and handling requirements and to travel as needed. The post is offered on a fixed-term, part-time basis for nine months, with a salary of £25,760 to £27,476 per annum pro rata, and the closing date for applications is 18 October 2026; applications must be submitted through the original advert.
