About this role
A permanent, 0.6 part-time Band 7 Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist role is available within Sunderland Children and Young People’s Service, part of the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based at Monkwearmouth Hospital in Sunderland, with occasional travel across the Trust’s sites to support families and multi-agency partners in the delivery of specialist mental health assessment and intervention for children and young people up to 18 years, including those with learning disabilities.
The post requires a professional with a Masters-level pre-clinical training and a doctorate in child and adolescent psychotherapy from an Association of Child Psychotherapists-accredited institution, together with current registration with the ACP. Essential experience includes substantial work within an NHS children’s mental health and learning disability service, advanced psychoanalytic skills for complex cases, and proven ability to supervise and consult across professional groups. The successful candidate will demonstrate high-level communication and formulation skills, competence in multidisciplinary teamworking, and the capacity to manage a demanding caseload while delivering therapeutic interventions in homes, clinics and court-related settings.
The role offers a salary of £49,387 to £56,515 per annum, pro rata for part-time hours, and is covered by the Agenda for Change pay framework. Applications must be submitted by 18 October 2026 via the original advert.
