About this role
The role is based within the Mid Essex Primary Care Mental Health Team, covering the Braintree and Maldon locality. The practitioner will provide triage, assessment and care planning for adults experiencing common mental health difficulties, working from general practice settings across the area. The position is permanent and falls under Band 6 of the Agenda for Change pay scale, with a salary range of £39,959 to £48,117 per year. Applications must be submitted by 15 October 2026 through the original advert, with the role requiring independent travel across the locality to support patients in their homes and communities.
Essential qualifications include current NMC registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), along with proven experience in mental health services and strong assessment and risk management skills. The candidate must demonstrate fluency in English, competence in IT, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including GPs and secondary care services. Desirable attributes encompass training in physical health screening, venepuncture, or stop smoking interventions, alongside mentorship preparation and ongoing professional development. The role emphasizes person-centred care, integrating physical health monitoring such as BMI and blood pressure checks, and contributing to integrated care pathway development.
The Trust offers 27 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 33 days after a decade of service, alongside a pension scheme of up to 14.5% and access to an Employee Assistance Programme providing round-the-clock counselling. Supervision and occupational health support are available to foster professional growth, while bank shift opportunities allow for additional income and skill development. This position presents a chance to deliver consistent, high-quality mental health care within a supportive framework that prioritises both patient outcomes and staff wellbeing across Essex’s Mid region.
