About this role
A locum consultant in breast surgery is required to provide specialist surgical care for patients with breast disease at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. The role is based at Southampton General Hospital on Tremona Road and is offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months, covering maternity leave. The post carries a salary of £113,565 to £150,569 per year, falling within the hospital medical and dental staff pay band, and is full-time. Applicants must hold a recognised medical degree, be registered with the GMC and possess a higher general surgery qualification such as FRCS. Essential experience includes practice in breast surgery, breast screening, oncoplastic and reconstructive techniques, and management of breast disease in accordance with national guidelines. Registration on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via CCT, CESR(CP) or European rights is required, with a proposed CCT/ CESR date within six months of interview. Desirable experience includes research involvement, membership of the Association of Breast Surgery and postgraduate qualifications. The successful candidate will deliver training within the breast unit, supervise junior staff and engage with clinical research while remaining up to date with Good Clinical Practice.
